Açaí vs DeepSeek

DeepSeek shipped frontier-class reasoning at a fraction of the OpenAI and Anthropic token cost, and the open weights made it a favorite of developers and researchers. It's a great model. A nutrition tracker needs more than a great model.

The honest take

Developers love DeepSeek. Users need an app.

DeepSeek's contribution to the field has been genuine: frontier reasoning at a dramatically lower cost, and open weights that let teams fine-tune for vertical use cases. We respect that work. We've also used it.

The gap is that a nutrition tracker is not a model, it's a product. Persistent storage, a structured nutrient schema, a live metabolic model, health integration, and a UI designed for daily capture from a phone. Those are ten thousand small product decisions that can't be distilled into model quality alone.

If someone wants to build their own nutrition tracker on top of DeepSeek, that's legitimate. If someone wants to track their nutrition today, starting with Açaí is much faster.

Skip building. Start tracking.

Açaí is the purpose-built product a DeepSeek-based tracker would take months to replicate.
