Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Santranc app and website (the "Service"), operated by Edgecase Labs LLC ("we," "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms are also the End User License Agreement (EULA) referenced by the App Store listing.

1. Eligibility & Accounts

You must be at least 13 and able to form a binding contract. You are responsible for your account and for activity under it. Keep your credentials secure. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

2. The Service

Santranc provides chess analysis, AI coaching, opening training, puzzles, and the ability to play games (against a human-like Maia3 opponent and/or online opponents). Features may change, and some functionality depends on third-party services and your connectivity.

3. Subscriptions, Trials & Billing

• Santranc is free to start. Premium is an auto-renewable subscription offered as monthly or annual plans, and may include a 7-day free trial.
• Purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. Payment is charged at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before period end.
• Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms; we generally cannot issue them directly.

4. Acceptable Use & Fair Play

You agree not to: misuse or disrupt the Service; reverse engineer or scrape it except as permitted by law; infringe others' rights; or use it unlawfully. For online play, no engine assistance, collusion, or cheating: we may restrict, void results, or terminate accounts for fair-play violations.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of games, PGNs, and questions you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host and process Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service (including sending coach questions to our AI provider to generate responses). You are responsible for having the rights to any content you submit.

6. AI Output & No Guarantees

Coaching, evaluations, and analysis are provided for educational purposes and may be incomplete or incorrect. We make no guarantee of rating improvement or that any move recommendation is optimal. Use your own judgment.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third parties including Chess.com, Lichess, Google, Apple, and our AI, analytics, and hosting providers. Your use of those services is governed by their terms. Chess.com and Lichess are trademarks of their respective owners and are not affiliated with or endorsing Santranc. Stockfish is open-source software used under its license; Maia models are used under their respective licenses.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, and brand, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement where applicable.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$100.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service anytime. We may suspend or terminate access for violations or to comply with law. Sections that by their nature should survive (for example, 5 through 10, and 12) survive termination.

12. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State in which Edgecase Labs LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms; we will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide notice. Continued use means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Apple-Specific Terms

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide support, and is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce these Terms. The app must be used in compliance with the App Store Terms of Service.
